About This Spot

Stepping into Kuma Sushi feels like discovering a quiet pulse of genuine connection in the heart of Reno. The restaurant carries the energy of a well-loved neighborhood spot where the hum of friendly conversations and the subtle sounds of sushi preparation set a comfortable, unhurried rhythm. The space invites diners to settle in and savor moments that are as much about people as they are about food.

The experience here is best enjoyed without rush. Whether it’s a weekday evening or a bustling weekend, Kuma Sushi maintains a balance between lively warmth and attentiveness. Servers move with a quiet mindfulness, ensuring that every request feels personal and timely, adding to the sense that you’re not just another guest, but part of a small unfolding story shared at the table.

What makes Kuma Sushi stand out is the thoughtful approach to each plate—fresh, artful, and made with an easygoing touch that favors genuine flavor over garnish for garnish’s sake. Rolls and nigiri come with just the right blend of fish and rice, softening the sometimes heavy feel of all-you-can-eat sushi traditions while making the meal feel intentionally crafted rather than hurried. You’ll find moments of quiet delight in delicate slices of salmon sashimi, playful combinations like the Sashimi Nacho, or a surprise in the texture of a baked scallop, each bite encouraging a little discovery.

It’s clear that the kitchen embraces freshness and simplicity, allowing the natural flavors to shine without overwhelming the palate. Fried appetizers offer a crisp interlude, but many guests seem to steer their appetites toward the precision of raw offerings, underscoring the place’s quiet pride in their seafood. For those who return, the subtle improvements in service and the evolving menu choices invite a comfortable familiarity without losing the thrill of new tastes.

In a city where finding sushi that balances authenticity and inviting atmosphere can be a challenge, Kuma Sushi offers a gentle reprieve. It’s a place where the joy of fresh fish meets the ease of friendly service, and where a meal can stretch pleasantly long into stories and laughter. Making time for a visit here means reserving more than a table—you’re reserving a small piece of the ongoing rhythm of Reno’s vibrant dining scene.

Came here for AYCE meals a few times because we really like the food and service. Sushi does not have a lot of rice, so it's really nice for AYCE. Service is attentive. Our servers came many times to take care of us, no waiting is needed. Recommended to have a reservation.

We came back here again after 3 months, and I'm happy to report, it's even better than I remembered! The one issue I had the last time had been happily solved -- I took another chance and ordered the scallop nigiri, and this time it was really fresh and yummy! And as an added bonus, the service was even nicer and more personable than before. Definitely 5/5 all around! We've tried at least 4-5 AYCE sushi places in Reno, and this is tied with Hinoki Sushi as our favorite spot. The sushi was pretty fresh and not loaded with rice, so you dont get full from it. The ambience was nice and the service fast and friendly. And the price - especially for lunch - was very reasonable. They don't have any premium sushi included but that's okay as I was happy with all the regular nigiris, maybe with the exception of the scallop which was just a little fishy. Their hot food/kitchen items were also pretty good. 5/5 overall, would definitely go back next time.

Delicious AYCE Sushi in the Reno area, not buffet style but you can always receive fresh meals as you need for 2 hours. This restaurant is very popular, and we waited for 40 minutes to get a seat at 6 pm on Saturday. Staffs are friendly. Plenty of choices of tasty sushi and nigiri, especially with fresh fish and seafood. Fried appetizers are ok but it's better to save your stomach for sushi. Sashimi salad, Salmon Cama, and baked sushi are highly recommended. There is an extra cost for ordering drinks. We enjoyed this sushi experience.

Kuma Sushi: Reno's Hidden Gem Delivers a Taste of Vegas-Level Excellence! As a self-proclaimed sushi stickler, especially after being spoiled by the incredible sushi scene in Las Vegas, I'm always on the hunt for a place that truly measures up. And let me tell you, Kuma Sushi in Reno has officially ended my search – it's the closest I've found to my favorite LV spots, and honestly, it might just be the best sushi in Reno I've tried. From the moment you step in, the nice setting at Kuma Sushi sets a welcoming and comfortable tone. It’s the perfect backdrop for enjoying a fantastic meal. The good service was also a standout; attentive without being overbearing, making for a truly enjoyable dining experience. Now, let's talk about the sushi itself: the rolls here are simply the best in Reno that I've encountered. I opted for the Alaskan roll and the spicy salmon, and both were exceptional. The Alaskan roll quickly became my favorite – a perfect balance of fresh ingredients and expertly rolled. But don't sleep on the spicy salmon; it was legitimately fantastic, with just the right amount of kick. For anyone who appreciates high-quality sushi and has a soft spot for the caliber of rolls found in Las Vegas, Kuma Sushi is an absolute must-try. I'm already planning my next visit – I'm definitely coming back for more!

I used to go to sushi Pier for my Ayce but Kuma will now be my new go-to! They have so many non-rice offerings and the rice on their rolls+nigiris are not too much either. Their kamas however is not like the regular hamachi kama and doesn't come with ponzu sauce but you can ask for it. Next time I'll remember to ask to skip green onions and onions for carpaccio next time. The mochi ice cream is pretty good but strawberry is better than the vanilla. I ask for green tea ice cream on my banana tempura but can't really taste the matcha. FYI green tea is not free and kids price is now lowered to 10 instead of 12. You can also call ahead to have your name put on waitlist

If there’s a better AYCE option in Reno, I would certainly like an introduction. At Kuma, not only are the sushi and rolls excellent including the upside down scallop but the appetizers are even better. The beef teriyaki is perhaps the best I’ve had at any AYCE establishment, the gyoza above average with generous filling, the miso soup robust and the udon available and hearty. Even the desserts are delectable especially the affogato. Service was beyond the call of duty though can be less attentive during busy weekend hours. Overall, this should emerge as the consensus best AYCE in Reno in the months to come.

We came to have dinner here and it was great. Sushi was well made, and the staff was great. They were very polite and serviceable. I think we found our new AYCE sushi in Reno.
